c.1947 Gama Clockwork Tank No 70 In Original Box

c.1947 Gama Clockwork Tank No 70 In Original Box

Beautiful working example of one of the many clockwork tin litho tanks manufactured by GAMA. This is No.70. Comes complete with original box plus original GAMA key. Toy and box appear to have been played with infrequently, if at all.

Although GAMA clockwork tanks are somewhat more abundant than some of their other toys, working high grade examples with their original treads, key and box are fairly scarce. No.70 has dark gray green body and slate gray chassis. It has a stationary turret and cannon with working hatch. The body is embossed with ax, shovel and two rear exhausts and lithoed with headlights and riveted plates. It has a start stop lever and an operating sparking mechanism (yes, it works). The chassis is a single plate with simple embossing. Markings on the tank are "GAMA" and "No.70".

The vehicle runs on its six original pressed aluminum bogey's (wheels). Both white rubber treads are original and intact. The original and elusive cast metal nickel plated GAMA key fits precisely over the stem.

The box was made from heavy weight paper stock and is solid and sturdy. It was printed with two views of the tank; in combat, and with darkened background. In addition to the toy name and number the box is also marked "Made In U.S. Zone Germany". The two printed images are reminiscent of stark, bold graphics seen on many German posters from several years before its manufacture.
